This document contains all information you need to install and use MacDim.
1 What is MacDim?
MacDim is a little, but beautiful screensaver. It takes almost no memory.
With MacDim screens that haven't been used for a while can be dimmed. Monitors that supports power saving can also be turned off. To dim up the screen(s), just move the mouse or press a key. MacDim doesn't do any annoying sounds when undimming from powersaving mode.
The best... MacDim is FREEWARE!
This means you may copy it freely, give it to your friends, put it on any CD-ROMs etc.
You don't have to pay anything to use MacDim.
2 Installation
MacDim is a control panel. To install it, just drop it on the system folder icon. The system will automatically place it in the right folder. Restart your computer to make it load at startup. The MacDim icon will be visible at the bottom of the main screen if the dimmer loads correctly. To temporarily disable MacDim, press the mouse button during startup.
If you have another screensaver (e.g. Apple's Energy Saver) it should be disabled to avoid conflicts.
3 System requirements
MacDim works on all Macintosh computers with system 7.0 or later and Color QuickDraw.
Black/white monitors can't be dimmed, but if they support power saving, they can be turned off.
4 Configuration of MacDim
In the control panel you can select which corners of the main screen that immediately will dim the screen(s) if the mouse is moved to that corner, and which corners that will prevent your screen(s) from dimming. With the “Delay” menu it is possible to add an extra delay before dimming. That can be very useful if there is another init that uses the corner (e.g PopChar). It is also possible to adjust how dark the screen(s) will be, how fast it(they) will dim, the time before it(they) dims and if and when the screen(s) should be turned off.
We are going to make this dimmer the absolute best one. To do this we need your help. Tell us about any bugs, ugly icons, typos etc. You are welcome to mail us new icon-suggestions and other such things, but please warn us first, the mailbox is not too large.
